People With Migraines Are More Likely To Be Depressed
You with headache, in particular migraines, are in a greater number likely to suffer from depression disorder, feel fatigued, and have a host of other austere physical symptoms, according to a medical study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The medical study involved 1900 man who buy cymbalta online at headache clinics in nine US regions. Of the women surveyed, 116 reported occasional headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 439 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the people were tested with migraines.
The clinical research found patient with chronic headache were four times more inclined than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Manic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms connected to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.
Among patients tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical research found the likelihood of major Depression increased 32-fold if the people also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms can agitate or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in people with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Psychotic Depression may heighten pain perception,” said medical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This dependence between migraine and major Psychotic Depression suggests a ordinary neurobiology.”
Tietjen says medical trial are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Depression would be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Indifferent of what’s causing the connection between migraine and Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Psychotic Depression complicates headache treatment and can lead to poorer outcomes for headache management,” said Tietjen.
The medical research was backinged, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American man suffer from headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 17000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to improving people care through instruction and clinical investigation. A neurologist is a surgeon with specialized training in monitoring, curing and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and frequent sclerosis.
